Understanding Sensory Complexities in Infants & Toddlers with CHARGE Syndrome

CHARGE Syndrome can impact all cranial nerves in the developing fetus, thus, impacting all operating systems of an infant. As all systems can be impacted, including breathing, swallowing, hearing, vision, digestion, etc. it is essential for early intervention providers to understand the medical intervention necessary for surviving and thriving in early infancy and post-medical urgency into language development and stability. This session will address the impact of these early experiences and will review strategies for intervention in young learners with CHARGE Syndrome.

  • Identify the main systems that are impacted in association with CHARGE Syndrome.
  • Analyze the cranial nervous system and the components that are impacted in relation to the sensory system.
  • Depict the complexities when multiple sensory systems are compromised.
