All about Assessments!

Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) already requires assessment data for every deaf or hard of hearing child between the ages of 0-3. With the new federal requirements and for many, also state-level requirements, early intervention service providers find themselves needing to know more about language acquisition assessments. This presentation will provide multiple (and updated!) ready-to-use tools in assessing and measuring those needs, including visual communication, sign language and spoken English, that have been designed for the use with deaf and hard of hearing children. Information also will be provided on various services that could be utilized by the family or school, including for a DeafBlind child. Attendees, including audiologists, speech language pathologists, parents and early intervention professionals will be guided in selecting and utilizing language acquisition assessments to meet federal and state expectations/requirements.

  • The participant will be able to state three different types of language acquisition assessments available today.
  • The participant will be able to explain the role of a language acquisition assessment specifically for a young deaf or hard of hearing child.
  • The participant will be able to connect language acquisition data to IFSP goals.
