Delivering a Coordinated Systems of Care
The CNMI EHDI Program has been in existence since July 2001. Newborn hearing screening is conducted for every baby born in the CNMI. CNMI has consistently screened 98% - 99% of infants prior to hospital discharge in past years. The program has tracked screening refer rates (i.e. how many newborns referred for further outpatient testing) and have worked on quality improvement efforts to reduce refer rates. Efforts to support families include giving appointment cards for outpatient follow ups before hospital discharge, translated materials, hearing developmental checklists for high risk infants.
The presentation will focus on how one of the EHDI Program in the Pacific Islands has evolved over the years and consistently meets the benchmarks of other National EHDI Programs. Although, struck with challenges due to geography, the program continues to make strides and continues to collaborate with key partners.
